Service, Fun in the sun, and Goal Setting....

Today we started off with a run to Barton Springs Pool where we did a service learning project with a few members of the House of Representatives, the Senator, and seemed like everyone official in Austin...

Then we went for a bike ride around Town Lake
and had a motivating talk with Jeremy Thiel to end the day...
WHEW! What a great camp!!!

Thanks Barton Springs Bike Rental, you guys were awesome the whole summer!!!!

We got "SWOLL"

Thanks to Michael Winchester, we did a workout today that he named "SWOLL"!! It was a great team challenge, that was very close!

Then, we went kayaking with Heather Reed (HJ) and Megan Parsons (Showout!)
It was hot, but we hardly even noticed, because we were having so much fun!!

One sinking kayak brought the group together like a real team!!

CC Kids ROCK!

Yesterday was packed with team building, a challenging workout, and then some swimming...
You may say, why are you brushing your teeth in the park...Well that was our partner building activity. They had to feed each other bananas and brush each others teeth. It was hilarious!!
At the pool, we had the first game of the summer where we actually lost the "bacon" and the workout was a good one~!!!
150 m Row
15 kb swings
10 jump ups
AMRAP in 10 minutes

The boys rocked the workout with 3 to 4 rounds!!!!!

The coaches that helped to make our week special...

Thanks Crystal, Jeremy, Carey, and JDP...
Crystal challenged us with wheelbarrow's (how do you spell that word?), pull-ups, and team challenges.

Crystal and Carey led us through workouts that were really fun...

Carey led us through "Jeremy" and then read us a book... I don't know many crossfit workouts that get Dr. Seauss read to them afterwards by a coach like Carey?!?! It was awesome!
It was a great lesson and workout~!

Then JDP and Crystal joined us for the bike riding. We loved having them there!

Lastly, we had Jeremy come talk to us about our choices in life and it was a great talk. He spoke with us about who our friends are, what we choose to do, and how we are in charge of our own actions... powerful talk! Thanks JT!!!

Explore Austin Week #3

"Between you and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is

a series of obstacles, and the bigger the goal, the bigger the

obstacles. Your decision to be, have, and do something out of

the ordinary entails facing difficulties and challenges that are

out of the ordinary as well. Sometimes your greatest asset is

simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else."

One of these guys told me this week....
"It's not the getting up at 5 a.m. that is hard to do, it is the deciding to do it, that is the hard part..."
They have been going strong at 6 am for 3 weeks now and I can not tell you how fun it is be a part of this excitement!!! The explorers and the mentors are all very motivating, encouraging, and inspiring! Wait a minute, I thought I was coming here to be the motivator, but the positive energy is contagious in this group! This Thursday is our last workout before they take their big trip to backpack in Colorado! Our focus has been personal strength and endurance but even more it has been teamwork and encouragement! These guys are ready to conquer any mountain together! They have even inspired their family members to come out! This has been a voluntary workout for these guys and some of them have not missed a day! Those that were sitting on the sidelines the first day are finishing the entire workout and pushing others to finish now!

Slideshow from the second kids camp

Biking, sweating, and teamwork...oh and don't forget about a lil Stevie!!!

Second Week of Fun!!!

Our service project was helping to trim the bushes and pick up branches at Barton Springs, but it was more exciting because they were filming and they were escorting us around everywhere.Individually we are just one drop, but together we are like an ocean...great teamwork and service!

"Explore Austin" workout

How many teenagers do you know who will voluntarily get up to workout at 6 in the morning, before they go to school?>? I think these guys are a rare and very special group...

What is Explore Austin you say?....

Founded in 2006, Explore Austin combines the benefits of mentoring and outdoor adventure in a six-year program for 6th through 12th grade inner-city youth. Focusing on team building and leadership training by utilizing its unique ACES framework, Explore Austin helps “Explorers” (we refer to participants as Explorers) increase self-confidence, build character, and develop a sense of responsibility for themselves and those around them. With seven Saturday Events and a week long Summer Wilderness Trip to remote destinations, Explore Austin seeks and attracts motivated students who desire to learn how to become leaders, experience new places, make lasting friendships, and seek challenges. Our hands-on approach and belief in learning by doing means our Explorers leave the program more confident, more experienced, and ready to lead.

First Day of Kids Camps!!!!

We had some teamwork activities where we got pretty close for the first day, but it was tons of fun! Getting tied up in a knot is a great way to make new friends!!
Today our workout was 10 pushups
10 squats
250 m Row
x5 rounds...
We built egg towers, went swimming, worked out, and had lunch under a shady tree.
The campers were awesome! I can't wait until tomorrow!

This was a team building activity where they had to figure out how to get everyone in the circle and they mastered it with some creativity!
